The boys and I have wanted to make tie dye t-shirts for a while now. This past week we had a good excuse. Douglas is invited to a birthday party next week. It is a pool party. We tried to think of homemade birthday gift ideas. We couldn’t do the paper airplane thing again because the airplanes would get wet. Together we decided to make a tie dye t-shirt as a present. Since we had plenty of dye we decided to invite the neighborhood kids over to make shirts for themselves.

The boys are very pleased with their work. It is day three and they haven’t taken them off yet. Yesterday night Douglas put his pajama top over his tie dye shirt to go to bed. Then in the morning he took his pajama top off and kept on with his tie dye shirt.
Grumpa saw the shirts yesterday and inquired about putting in an order for one. I told him that we’d already decided it would be a nice holiday present for him. Grumpa and Granny suggested that everyone would like one. So consider yourself warned. You are all getting tie dye t-shirts for Christmas.

Jen, what a coincidence! I saw a guy wearing a tie dye shirt the other day and thought: “I wonder if Doug and Alex have ever done that. I’ll have to ask Jen.”
They came out so great and they look so proud of them! I want one!

[...] don’t remember where I got it. Remember last summer when I invited the neighborhood kids over to make tie dye t-shirts. This summer I want to invite them over to make bubble wrap art. I really love the look of this and [...]
Making tie-dyes is great fun for kids. We would recomend always wearing gloves. The dyes you are using contain potentially harmfull chemicals such as lead and formaldehyde as well as many others. It is also advisable not to allow small children to wear their shirts until they have been washed and dryed several times.
