You are what you consume.

Yesterday while surfing the internet I stumbled upon mark menjivar’s site.  He has compiled a series of photos of the insides of people’s refrigerators.  I immediately took out my camera and took a picture of the inside of my refrigerator and freezer.  I didn’t move, remove or add anything.

After a little examination I don’t think that I score too badly.  I’ve got local bread, milk and eggs.  I’ve got carrots, organic avocados and organic strawberries.  We have hummus and natural peanut butter.  On the bad side we do have a huge bottle of Gatorade and large box of frozen pops — both of which I did not purchase.

Overall — not too bad — but definitely room for improvement.

Since so many of us are changing the way we are eating — doesn’t it seem like the way we store food should change too.  I have so much extra space in my refrigerator.  I could easily get away with using one half this size.  Think of the money I could save in electricity.

BTW — I’m a vegetarian again.   Nothing revolutionary.  I just felt like I couldn’t ignore the whole factory farm issue anymore.

  1. nice going on the vegetarian front…..after the first few weeks, it becomes a no brainer. we bought this great energy saver fridge last march when our fridge died; it is small, but the design (European, of course!) is great. our electric bills are always under $30. http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/ny/appliances-small/the-conserv-refrigerator-001653 the fridge is now sold by Summit, same design, different distribution. we got ours for under a grand. Summit also makes great one….we almost went for 2 under the counter one to save space.

  2. LOVE your site. One of my favs!
