Modern Minimal Vintage

I’m obsessed with a trend I’ve noticed on Instagram that I’m going to call Modern Minimal Vintage or MMV for short (pronounced like envy but with an M sound in the front. Let’s see if that sticks.) Below are some of the instashops I’m following. The best part of this trend is that these pieces are pretty easy to find in your local secondhand stores. You just need to be confident in the styling.

My favorite shop is Iamthat_shop out of Portland, Oregon. I love how she styles her looks. She’s made me aware that when vintage shopping I need to look for simple turtlenecks, sleeveless velvet tops, elastic waist pants, and unusual colors — like salmon.iamthattwosweaters iamthat-salmon-wool-pants i-am-that-tan-pantsi-am-that-pink-shirtiam-that-elastic-waist

Persephone Vintage also has great styling inspiration. She has reminded me to look at two-piece suits, jewel tones, and belted coats.

Mirth is great too. Their collection of images reminded me to look for drop earrings, midi-skirts, and chunky heels.

What do you look for when you are shopping secondhand?

Style Queue Magazine

It’s official!  My monthly Style Queue column is turning into a magazine. I know, right. Bananas!  I am beyond grateful and thrilled to be invited to work with the team at The Sound to create a magazine that will celebrate individuals with unique style on the Seacoast. Watch the teaser videos below and help spread the good word.

Pale Denim

I’m loving pale denim lately. The ensemble below is by Rachel Comey.

rachelcomey-pale-denimThe top above got me searching on Etsy for similar tops.  I found this one (below). I love the style, and the price is right — only $28.00.  Seems a little heavy and big for summer.  Maybe it would look good with layers in the Fall.

And if you are crafty you can try to turn it into a State-like smock.  Check out their fun styling video.

I bought a couple pairs of elastic-waist, pale denim, granny jeans.  They only cost about $2.99 a pair. I guess no one else wants them. Go figure. Below is a pair that I hemmed and pegged.

Look at how cute Frankie has styled her granny jeans.
