My friend Kirsten and I are challenging each other to sew more in 2021. We recently shared our plans with each via Zoom. Watch the video below to see the inspiration behind each of my monthly project plans. Most of my projects involve upcycling but a few of my them will involve me sewing from scratch. #Yikes I will share my progress on my Instagram account and here on my blog. Follow along, or better yet — join in and share your progress!
10:00am – 12:00pm: Tie-Dye Instruction and Demonstration
This first portion of the workshop is designed for individuals who are completely new to tie-dyeing, or need a refresher on the basics of folding and dyeing techniques. There is no additional cost for supplies. Squares of recycled fabric will be provided for practice. We will cover single color immersion dyeing and multicolor direct application dyeing.
12:30 p.m. – 4:30 pm Dye Playtime
After a short lunch break the workshop will turn into an afternoon of play and experimentation. Students who have taken the morning workshop will continue on and work on personal projects. Students who have taken the instruction portion of the workshop previously can arrive and work on personal projects.
Every student who is signed up for the afternoon will have access to the space, soda ash, dyes and supplies. The teachers will be around all afternoon to answer questions.
Suggested items for students to bring to class for personal projects: t-shirts, tank-tops, skirts, leggings, socks, pillowcases, etc.
VERY IMPORTANT: Your personal project items must be made of natural material in order to accept the dye. Examples of natural fabrics are cotton, silk and linen.
The entire workshop (10:00 am – 4:30 pm) costs $35.00 per person
The afternoon Dye Playtime (12:30 – 4:30) costs $25.00 per person
This workshop is for adults and older teens. Children between the ages of 12-16 need to sign up with an adult. The class will be limited to 12 people.
