Pelicans – Seasonal Workers of Star Island // Photography Book

It’s finally here! The book has landed.

Last year, Anna Solo and I decided we would create a photography book about the seasonal workers (nicknamed Pelicans) of Star Island. I am extremely proud of what we put together with the help of illustrator, Elizabeth DeJure Wood, our editors — Matt and Chloe Kanner of PortsmouthNH.com, and the book designer — Matt Ralph of Plainspoke.

Join us for the book release party on Tuesday, July 2nd from 6:30 PM to 9 PM at Brick & Barn Real Estate Group in the West End of Portsmouth, NH. Thank you to Cornerstone Artisanal Pizza and Craft Beer for donating pizza for our party!!! 🍕

A limited number of books will be available for sale at the release party. A portion of the proceeds of the sale of the book go to Star Island Corp.

Anna Hepler

I wish I’d seen this Anna Hepler show at the Portland Museum of Art back in 2010.

Love her work, her style, her process. So inspiring.
Especially love the Double Hung wire sculpture from this 2017 exhibition. Cheeky.

It makes me think of Ruth Asawa’s work. There is a new book out soon about Ruth Asawa. We have it on order at the Portsmouth Public Library. You can place a hold on it here.

I was reminded of Anna Hepler’s work via a post on Remodelista about The Soot House on Spruce Head Island in Maine. Follow the links to a post about the 1754 Cape to see Hepler’s work in the wild.
